Season 1 Stories

Episode 1

“Let There Be Flight”

DJ, Steve, Cooper, Gary and Navin all are in flight in their super-cool small planes (too cool to list here), planning to land at the beautiful Santa Paula airport in California. After landing, they all head over to a large hangar where they walk past a Ferrari, smile at each other and walk right up to a beautiful Gulfstream G700, where the owner, Bob, gives them a tour of the one of the fastest and most luxurious private jets in the world.

Each of our pilots, sitting in front of the G700, introduces themselves and talk about how they became pilots and their passion for aviation. Next, they each climb into their planes and head off to California Aeronautical University, in Bakersfield.

Once they land, they are greeted by the University President, Matthew Johnston, who takes them and a group of freshmen in a Cessna Caravan, for a flight over the Mojave Desert. In flight, Steve, Cooper, Gary and Navin interview four scholarship students and all from first generation America families and the first to go to college.

They return to Bakersfield and are greeted by Brad Tilden, retired CEO of Alaska Airlines and Mark Dunkerley, current CEO of Hawaiian Airlines, both accomplishes pilots and good friends.

Our gang take Matt, Brad, Mark and all the students out to dinner at Hungry Hunters, the local aviator’s hangout. During dinner, Brad regales the group with a story about his days as a bush pilot for Alaska Airlines, flying in the Alaskan wilderness. Mark comments that some of the stories might actually be true.

Episode 2

“Airspeed Alive meets Stayin’ Alive”

Our crew pays a visit to Ocala, Florida to meet with John Travolta, commercial pilot, who has his own private airport and fleet of beautiful aircraft.

John takes the team up in his Gulfstream and talks about his love for flying that started when he was 15, long before he started acting.

We return to John’s aircraft hangar for a tour of his planes and his classic cars and then visit the annual “Cops and Cars” Charity car show in Ocala, where our crew auctions off a ride in one of John’s jets with John in command.

We finish with the chief of police, our crew and John enjoying dinner at Mark’s Prime, John’s favorite hangout in Ocala.

Episode 3

“Is it Breezy out here?”

Our crew cruises along in our Cessna Caravan (our official crew airplane) with Gary as Pilot-In-Command when they get a call from tail number 2863P asking if they would like a dual escort to Coulter Airfield in Bryan, Texas. Gary says they sure would as Cooper suggest they should all look to the left and right. On each side of the Caravan is a Breezy, one piloted by Stephen Peace and the other by Tim Harding, two of the three best Breezy pilots in the world. They wave and veer off as Gary calls final approach to landing.

The Caravan lands followed by Breezy One landing, then Breezy Two. All four hop out and are greeted by DJ and David Weber, the other great Breezy pilot, just as the other two Breezy aircraft taxis up to the hangar.

The Breezy gang gives our crew a tour of the Breezy aircraft and offering its amazing history, which includes archival footage from the early 1960s of the original Breezy and its inventors, Carl Unger, Charlie Rolloff, and Bob Liposky. But enough talking – the three Breezy pilots take Steve, Navin and Cooper for their first rides in a Breezy while having VERY different reactions (yelling, crying, laughing and near pant-wetting) as DJ and Gary tail them in the Caravan.

After surviving their first flights in a Breezy, everyone heads to Catalina Hatters to get fitted for their first, custom-made cowboy hats. Looking sharp, they all head to Fargo’s BBQ Pit for some of the best BBQ in Texas where they are surprised by a special guest who invites them to his music show that night at the local honky-tonk in Bryan, Texas.

Episode 4

“Up, Up and Away”

It is a beautiful day in our Cessna Caravan, being piloted by our very own Steve with DJ in ‘the right seat’. The tower gives him instructions for his heading to the airport. Steve confirms and then tells the others to look out to the left side of the airplane. In the distance and coming up quickly, is the Albuquerque New Mexico Balloon Fiesta, with hundreds of hot air balloons aloft. They do a wide circle around the festival.

As our crew exits the plane, Matt Guthrie, president, and Judy Nakamura, vice president, of the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta greet them. Through archival footage, they discuss the rich history of the Fiesta culminating in the 50th anniversary celebration in 2022.

Over the next nine days of the festival, they meet balloon pilots and their beautiful balloons, compete in the Gas Balloon Race, hitch rides in the Mass Ascension, and wonder in sheer awe of the Night Magic Glow as all the hot air balloons light up their burners at dusk, illuminating the night sky. They finish up with a dinner with Matt and Judy at the Chasers Club, the exclusive club and restaurant created just for the Fiesta.
